About Ipoh

Ipoh is the capital city of the state of Perak and is also the third largest city in Malaysia. The vast development of this city was due to the booming tin-mining industry back in the 1950s during the British colonial era which propelled this sleepy town into the height of its glory. However, the collapse of the tin-mining industry in the 1970s resulted in the stagnation in growth of the city and the tin mining industry became a thing of the past. Fast forward to the 21st century, Ipoh is now a city loved by locals and travelers alike for its captivating ambiance and scrumptious delicacies. Ipoh was featured by Lonely Planet, the largest travel guide book publisher in the world, as one of the best Asian destinations to visit back in 2016.

Ipoh is divided naturally by the Kinta River into two main townships - the Old-and New Town of Ipoh. The old town harbors older and pre-war architectures comprising of government buildings, shop lots, residences and historical landmarks, many of which are well-preserved and functional. On the other hand, the New Town was developed by Yau Tet Shin around 1908. This area houses the Perak Medical University and Ipoh City Hall building, among others. There are also numerous shops, shopping malls, and hotels within the vicinity. D. R. Seenivasagam Park, formerly known as Coronation Park, is located in the heart of Ipoh and is vastly popular for its scenic beauty and recreational facilities. It comprises recreational fields, an artificial lake filled with fish, a nursery for potted plants and a children's playground. The latest addition includes a newly landscaped Japanese-themed garden and pond. In addition, the extensive limestone hills around Ipoh feature a vast number of natural caves which are often converted into religious temples, many of which are also tourist attractions.
